RESERVOIR STREET WIDENING (COUNTY)
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA
McCormick Taylor developed preliminary and final design plans for this roadway improvement project to widen about 0.4 miles of Reservoir Street from two lanes to four lanes and with a raised median.
THE CHALLENGE
This project essentially extended roadway widening improvements that the City of Harrisonburg were undergoing at the time, which were also designed by McCormick Taylor, from the City/County line to Stone Spring Road. In addition, extensive coordination occurred with several adjacent private developments directly impacted by the project, some of which were also under design at the time by those developers, as well as the regional hospital that serves the County and City of Harrisonburg.
HOW WE HELPED
McCormick Taylor’s services included roadway design, traffic engineering and analysis, signing and pavement marking, public involvement, drainage analysis and design, stormwater management, erosion & sediment control, utility coordination and relocation design, environmental studies and permitting, right-of-way acquisition assistance, bid assistance, and construction administration services.
RESULTS
The completed project included curb and gutter, dedicated bike lanes and graded out paths for future sidewalk on each side of the road. The project also significantly improved the transportation links between the County, City of Harrisonburg, James Madison University, and the nearby regional hospital.
