SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL - CEDAR LEE MIDDLE SCHOOL

FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA

McCormick Taylor prepared construction plans for this federally funded, locally administered Safe Routes to School project that involved approximately 1,750 feet of shared-use path and 800 feet of sidewalk.

THE CHALLENGE

The improvements occurred adjacent to Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks under State Route 17 (March Road). Additionally, a pedestrian boardwalk crossing over a stream channel was part of the added features.

HOW WE HELPED

McCormick Taylor prepared preliminary and final construction plans, technical specifications, helped Fauquier County with right of way acquisition and bid documents, and administered the bid process. McCormick Taylor also provided construction administration services.

RESULTS

The project included improvements such as new sidewalk, curb and gutter, ADA curb cuts with associated crosswalks, 10’ shared-use path with secure bicycle parking, and signing and pavement markings to improve the pedestrian access to Cedar Lee Middle School and the surrounding community.
