As we prepare to surround ourselves with friends and family for the holidays, McCormick Taylor’s Baltimore office celebrates with each other—while supporting a worthy cause.
On Friday, November 16, the office hosted its 6th annual chili cook-off, an event that benefits Meals on Wheels Central Maryland, an organization dedicated to providing meals for homebound elderly. Employees cook their favorite chili recipe and particpants bring in a donation to sample and then vote for the best in each category to compete for the coveted trophies. This year, the office raised $1,090.
However, the most important part of our involvement is not our monetary donations, but the donation of our employees' time to deliver meals to the community throughout the year. These elderly citizens have experienced financial or physical obstacles that prevent them from leaving their house to get their own meals. Volunteers at McCormick Taylor serve these members of the community by delivering pre-made meals right to their door.
Volunteers also assist with grocery shopping, pet food, waste management, upgrades and repairs to homes, companionship, and more. Companionship is an especially important aspect of the charity, as for many recipients that interaction could be their only contact that day, or even that week in some situations. Being involved with Meals on Wheels has been a rewarding experience for our staff, and we hope to support this cause for years to come.
