Serving nearly 500 campers each year, Camp Nejeda plays a vital role enhancing the lives of youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and their families. Dianna Sisto, Executive Assistant at McCormick Taylor, has seen the life-changing impact Camp Nejeda has had on a close friend’s child when he unexpectedly was diagnosed with T1D. Their experience led Dianna to request and receive funds from McCormick Taylor’s Charity Committee to benefit the Camp Nejeda Foundation.
The mission of the Camp Nejeda Foundation is to “enhance the lives of people with T1D and their families through education, empowerment, camaraderie, supportive programs, and fun”. To do so without the burden of cost, the Foundation subsidizes the cost of camp for all participants with awards ranging from 20% to 100% and provides additional financial assistance to approximately 30% of campers each year.
Camp Nejeda is located in Sussex County, New Jersey and hosts campers from surrounding areas and states, including New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and elsewhere. Programs offered at Camp Nejeda include summer camp, family camp, day camp, weekend programs, and more. While there, campers will have the typical camp experience while also learning how to manage their diabetes, make healthy food choices, and maintain a good attitude.
McCormick Taylor’s Charity Committee contribution will help support the Camp Nejeda Foundation’s mission and send a child to camp this summer.
