We are pleased to announce that David Guttenplan, PE, MSCE, has joined McCormick Taylor in our Tampa, Florida office.
As a Project Manager for Transportation Engineering, David will manage all aspects of design projects, support existing client relationships, and contribute to market growth in Florida.
David Guttenplan, PE, MSCE, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as a Project Management Engineer and Safety Studies Engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7. He was the FDOT Design Project Manager for several significant projects, including the $865.3 million Howard Franklin Bridge Replacement Project and the $11.3 million resurfacing project on SR 39 from Knights Griffin Road to the Pasco County Line Road. He also oversaw the $50 million I-275 Tampa Bay Next Safe Trip Improvements Program for the $1.4 billion West Shore Interchange Reconstruction Project.
Additionally, David led critical initiatives for FDOT, including the Safety Component of the Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Program. He created the Lane Departure Safety Action Plan and organized Hurricane Ian recovery efforts for over 2,000 bridges in Districts 1 and 7.
David’s dedication to transportation planning and engineering is not just professional, but deeply personal. His commitment to improving road safety was ignited by a tragic bike crash in 2016. As a professional road cyclist, he fought his way back to the top of the sport, inspiring many along the way. Now, he brings this same determination to his career, driven by a passion to save lives and enhance our roadways.
“We are very excited to welcome David to the McCormick Taylor family," said Erik Schmidt, PE, PTOE, Senior Project Manager, Transportation Engineering. “His passion for what we do and the impact we make on our communities is a perfect fit for MT. As a professional cyclist, he also brings that unique perspective to our Traffic group. I can’t wait to see what great things we are able to accomplish here in Tampa and with other offices at McCormick Taylor!”
